After attending an info session, the next step is becoming an Associate Member. This role helps you explore and participate in our community more deeply and determine if cohousing suits your lifestyle. If you decide to join, you can apply to become an Equity Member and Director of our cohousing development company.
We welcome prospective members while ensuring mutual fit - socially, financially, and practically. Suitable members share cohousing's community values, can make the necessary investment, and commit time to its planning and management.
-
As an Associate Member, you'll participate in workshops, meetings, and social events, experiencing firsthand how we operate and where we're heading.
The one-time, non-refundable fee of $200 covers a 3-month membership and includes the book "Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities." These fees support our startup costs like outreach, website, and meetings.
While Associate Members may attend meetings, only Equity Members make project decisions. There's no long-term obligation - you're free to explore at your own pace.
-
To fully participate after being an Associate Member, the next step is applying for Equity Membership. Before making any financial commitment, you'll review all legal agreements and documentation. You'll become a decision-making shareholder/director of our special-purpose development company. We strongly recommend consulting your attorney during this process.
-
Developing our community requires both shareholder investments and construction financing. Prospective Equity Members must complete a confidential financial statement demonstrating their ability to purchase a home, whether through personal funds or mortgage financing.
-
Our development team will prepare market-based preliminary budgets, which we'll update at key project milestones. We aim to match local market rates while providing extensive common amenities that support community connection.
We'll make design decisions that balance costs with community goals, keeping Equity Members informed of trade-offs and implications.
-
In our community-led approach, future residents guide development decisions with professional support. Cohousing typically delivers higher-quality, more sustainable homes than conventional developments. As founding members, you'll help create not just your home, but a vibrant community with shared facilities and lasting connections.
